Atlantic Cape Hosts 2nd Annual High School Girls Volleyball Summer Showcase on Mays Landing Campus

MAYS LANDING — Girls Volleyball student athletes from five local high schools competed in Atlantic Cape Community College’s 2nd Annual High School Girls Volleyball Summer Showcase tournament on August 14 in the Jonathan Pitney Hall Gymnasium on the Mays Landing campus.

The tournament featured incoming 2024-25 academic year student athletes from Absegami, Cedar Creek, Egg Harbor Township, Oakcrest and Pleasantville high schools. Each team played two, two-set matches against each opponent (for a total of eight matches) followed by a one-set, single elimination playoff round.

In the opening playoff round, fourth-seeded Pleasantville lost to fifth-seeded Absegami, 25-22, while second-seeded Egg Harbor Township defeated third-seeded Oakcrest, 25-13. Top-seeded Cedar Creek, who earned a bye thanks to its first-place finish, topped Absegami, 25-20, in the second round to earn the opportunity to play Egg Harbor Township for the title. In the final round, Egg Harbor Township defeated Cedar Creek, 25-20.

Four contests were held for fun in between the scheduled matches. Absegami won in Target Serving, Cedar Creek took the Setting Contest, Pleasantville won the Hitting Accuracy and Egg Harbor Township excelled in the Ace the Libero.

While providing the student athletes with practice matches as they prepare for their respective upcoming seasons, several members of Atlantic Cape’s Women’s Volleyball program volunteered their time during the tournament, as well.
