Psi Beta Honor Society for Psychology at Atlantic Cape Inducts 30 New Members During Ceremony

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Chapter of the Psi Beta Honor Society held its 2nd Annual Induction Ceremony in Walter E. Edge Theater on the Mays Landing campus before numerous friends, family, and college faculty, staff and classmates on April 24.

“Psi Beta provides national recognition and serves as an aid for stimulating interest in psychology as an academic and professional field of endeavor. The knowledge gained from the study of psychology is applicable to any career,” said Madeline Barrows, assistant professor, Psychology. “Students feel a sense of community with others in psychology. As they learn more about the larger field of psychology, members are eligible to win national awards in research and community service.”

The Psi Beta Honor Society recognizes the academic excellence of students in psychology at two-year community colleges. Atlantic Cape’s chapter was created in 1996 by Dr. Marty Marino and was recently restarted as an active student club in time for the 2022-23 academic school year.

More than 30 students were inducted this year and they include: Bri Bates, Megan Cassibia, Jamie "Lilly" Castelli, Kelsey Clunn, Haley Disomma, Angelina Doria, Natalie Flores, Grace Foster, Julianna Freeman, Nandie Jean-Baptiste, Leila Johnson, Nerilee "Lilith" Lapinski, Deyalith Maldonado-Mercado, Jaclyn Nervico, Stephanie Olson, Sara One, John Orbe, Caitlyn Peak, Charley Phy, Lennie Reales, Jasmine Rodriguez, Sdassy Salazar-Barbosa, Kathleen Salmoran-Guzman, Brielle Santiago, Katherine Seeds, Haley Shaw, Lenard Sulio, Kaylee Teasenfitz, Giavanna Torres, Sean Walls and Isaiah Watson.

“I think this is the best of times. We all see lots of promise in what is happening here at Atlantic Cape and the key is you,” said Dr. Denise Coulter, senior dean, Liberal Studies and Culinary Arts. “Let’s savor this moment of accomplishment and success. I am so pleased for all of you and for what you have achieved. I know that the best awaits you all in the future and I can’t wait to see what you accomplish.”

Throughout the year, students participate in events that broaden their knowledge of the field of psychology. Examples of community efforts they took part in this past year, Psi Beta members engineered a toiletry drive for Sister Jean’s Kitchen in Atlantic City and held a gathering where they assembled 325 blessing guides for Angels in Motion.

Associate Professor Dr. Beth Sanders-Rabinowitz offered encouragement to the student honorees.

“I urge you all to continue to push the boundaries of your knowledge and to strive for excellence in all that you do,” said Dr. Sanders-Rabinowitz. “You are capable of achieving greatness. Your potential is limited only by the extent of your imagination, and your drive and determination to reach your goals.”
