Atlantic Cape’s Worthington Atlantic City Campus Recognized with NAACP Community Service Award

ATLANTIC CITY — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City campus was recognized with the prestigious Community Service Award during the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Atlantic City Chapter’s 50th Annual Freedom Fund Gala Dinner at Hard Rock Hotel Casino in Atlantic City on April 27.

“Atlantic Cape’s Atlantic City campus is a beacon of community service. Many local organizations and community groups meet there,” said NAACP Atlantic City Chapter President Kaleem Shabazz. “It is our pleasure to recognize and honor them (Atlantic Cape) for the service they do.”

Accepting the award on behalf of Atlantic Cape were Dr. Natalie Devonish, vice president, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management; Victor Moreno, senior manager, Special Projects, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management; Lizbeth Castro-James, director, Worthington Atlantic City Campus and Community Outreach; and Michael Intrieri, project lead, Inlet Community Development Corporation (CDC).

"We are deeply grateful to the Atlantic City Chapter of the NAACP for recognizing Atlantic Cape's commitment to community service in Atlantic City, especially at our Worthington campus,” said Dr. Devonish. “This honor inspires us to continue making a positive impact in our local community."

Also recognized during this event were Dr. Patricia Reid-Merritt with the Lt. Governor Sheila Y. Oliver Civil Rights & Social Justice Award; Dr. Olatunji Peter Kuponiyi, M.D. and Dr. Inua A. Momodu, M.D. with Health Awards; Cathy Burke, owner, Irish Pub with the Business Award; Brenda Brathwaite with the Education Award; and Henrietta Wallace-Shelton, Chicken Bone Beach with the second Community Service Award.

Atlantic Cape has been proud to serve the residents of Atlantic City with convenient access to an affordable higher education. This year, the Atlantic City campus is celebrating its 40th Anniversary with a free and open-to-the-public Block Party on Wednesday, May 1, 4-6 p.m. at 1535 Bacharach Boulevard.
