Atlantic Cape Hosts New Jersey State Indoor Archery Championships Southern Venue Tournament

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College hosted the southern venue portion of the 2024 New Jersey State Indoor Archery Championships in Jonathan Pitney Gymnasium on the Mays Landing campus February 3-4 as the Buccaneers’ Archery team opened the Spring semester half of its 2023-24 season.
This annual USA Archery event brought archers from New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland, as well as Atlantic Cape and Rowan University, to the college to compete in nearly 30 categories. Participants competed in skill categories ranging from as young as Under-13 to as experienced as 70+.
Atlantic Cape’s Jared Lancaster led all Buccaneer archers in scoring by tallying a 529 in the Collegiate Male Recurve. Canluan Wang finished second at 503, Badrul Alam Ruhin third at 476, Jake Michael fifth at 429, Dan Luna sixth at 422, Julio Poventud eighth at 399 and Sadman Sakib eleventh at 322.
Brooke Kaelble paced the Buccaneers’ female scorers, despite having equipment issues, by tallying a 436 in the Collegiate Female Compound. In the Collegiate Female Recurve, Atlantic Cape’s Theresa VonEllington finished first with a 351. Kaytlin Chambers and Madison Ventura finished tied for second place at 256.
The Central and Northern venue competitions will be held Saturday, February 17 and Sunday, February 18 at WA-Xo-Be Archers in Monmouth Junction and Wo-Pe-Na Archers in Clifton, respectively.
Atlantic Cape’s Archery team will next participate in the U.S. National Indoor Championships at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. from February 23-25.
