Atlantic Cape Unveils President’s Distinguished and Young Alumni Wall of Honor

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College officially unveiled The President’s Distinguished and Young Alumni Wall of Honor in J Building during a ceremony that brought many past honorees together for this special occasion on the Mays Landing campus on Tuesday, December 12.

The Wall of Honor, made possible thanks to a generous donation from the Estate of Patricia J. Ogle, was created to showcase Atlantic Cape alumni who have made important contributions and achievements to the college and the surrounding community. It is prominently displayed in the highly-traversed corridor that links J Building to the Student Center (G Building) and Walter E. Edge Hall (C Building), and will be visible to all current students and the campus community at-large, serving as inspiration to all who one day wish to see themselves honored as well.

“Alumni are one of our most important stakeholder groups here at Atlantic Cape. They support the ongoing efforts to fulfill the college’s mission through giving back with their time, talent and treasure,” said Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba. “As our students walk by this Wall of Honor we hope that they are inspired to succeed when they see the faces of our distinguished alumni and they realize that their success will truly come in time with hard work.”

Several distinguished alumni award winners, who are recognized on the Wall of Honor, were in attendance for the unveiling including Dennis Kelly, Joseph Sheridan, Georgeann Leaming, Jerome Ingram, Bert Lopez, Terry Budd, Dr. Ananda Davis-Wright, Janice DeCicco Fipp, Kimberly Richardson, James Sarkos and Madeline Quinn Seidenstricker. An informal reception followed afterwards at Careme’s, Atlantic Cape’s Academy of Culinary Arts student-run gourmet restaurant.

"It is our hope that this diverse group of exceptional alumni honored for their achievements will inspire the next generation of students as well as the faculty and staff who are deeply committed to our student’s success," said Atlantic Cape Foundation Executive Director Jean McAlister.

The President’s Distinguished Alumni Award was established in 2010 to recognize Atlantic Cape graduates who have made significant contributions through a combination of professional, academic and community-based accomplishments, and have also remained committed to supporting the college, its mission and students. Meanwhile, the Young Alumni Achievement Award is bestowed upon a graduate who is 40 years or younger and has excelled in his/her profession, made positive contributions to his/her community and remained connected to the college while supporting its mission and values.

Annually, the college community and the community at-large are encouraged to submit alumni that demonstrate outstanding dedication and service to their community including Atlantic Cape. A committee made up of Atlantic Cape Foundation Trustees and alumni review the submissions and rate them independently. The top scorer(s) are sent to the College President for final approval.

Nominations for the 2024 Distinguished Alumni and Young Alumni awards are being accepted through Monday, January 26, 2024. Nominations received after the deadline will be considered with next year’s group of nominees.
