MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College’s Libraries recently received a grant from LibraryLinkNJ, a New Jersey library cooperative funded by the New Jersey State Library, to expand its Textbooks on Reserve collection for the 2023-24 academic school year.
The $5,000 grant is part of LibraryLinkNJ’s Level Up Your Library mini-grant program, which seeks to improve existing programs and activities in New Jersey’s public, academic and school libraries.
“Atlantic Cape’s Libraries submitted a proposal to use grant funds to acquire textbooks that are often too expensive for the library to obtain and our proposal was selected for funding from over 100 submitted applications,” said Janet Hauge, Director of Academic Support Services. “Our students are directly benefiting from this grant because they now will have access to textbooks that they may not have been able to purchase.”
This additional grant funding enabled Atlantic Cape’s Libraries to expand their textbook coverage from 80 titles serving 92 different courses to 115 titles serving 135 courses. Many of the newly-added textbooks included some of the most expensive textbooks used on campus that had long been outside of the library’s financial means.
Atlantic Cape’s Textbooks on Reserve collection contains textbooks that are currently used in its college courses. Students may use the textbooks in any of Atlantic Cape’s three libraries on the Mays Landing, Atlantic City and Cape May campuses to complete assignments and course readings. Students may not take these textbooks home, but many students find that using a reserve textbook in one of the library’s study rooms is an effective way to study course material and save a significant amount of money.
