Connie Walton Named Atlantic Cape’s 2023 Employee of the Year

MAYS LANDING — Atlantic Cape Community College named Ms. Connie Walton as the college’s 2023 Employee of the Year during a breakfast ceremony on Monday, November 28 at the Mays Landing campus.
Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba presented Walton with an Amazon gift card, which she received along with a reserved parking space for one year and a commemorative plaque. Gaba stated that Walton is looked upon as someone who, “interacts with students in a warm, friendly and professional manner, and is synonymous with faculty support.” Gaba also said that Walton is an employee whom the faculty rely on thanks to her positive demeanor and problem solving acumen.
Walton, who resides in Pleasantville, is currently the Office Coordinator in the Academic Resources department. She has been employed by Atlantic Cape since September 29, 1999 when she began as the Office Assistant for the Associate Dean of Instruction. She was then promoted to Office Coordinator in 2003. She was promoted to her current position in 2006.
“I am so happy and grateful. I want to thank everybody that nominated and voted for me,” Walton said. “I love my job here, I love working with the students, the faculty and the other employees. I am just so humbled and grateful for everybody that has recognized the work that I do towards advancing Atlantic Cape.”
Gaba also recognized the 28 nominees in attendance before announcing the winner.
“All of you contribute in different ways to bring all of these pieces together and you are all fantastic people,” Gaba said. “ I want to thank you all for the work you have done, how we appreciate your service and I say that from the bottom of my heart.”
Atlantic Cape annually recognizes its full-time support staff members who have helped most to make the college a place where students are comfortable, where staff members are pleasant and efficient, and where visitors feel welcome. The ideal candidate makes suggestions or performs in a way that creates a safer, more attractive, or more efficient environment for his/her area and for the college community, thereby promoting excellent customer service. To be eligible for nomination, an employee must be employed at the college for at least one year and have not been an employee of the year for at least three years.
