Eight Complete Academy of Culinary Arts Short-term Training Program

On Jan. 25, eight students were recognized for completing the Academy of Culinary Arts four-month noncredit training program. The ceremony was held in the Caesars Entertainment Wing for Hospitality and Gaming Studies at Atlantic Cape Community College’s Charles D. Worthington Atlantic City Campus.
The program began with Chef Kelly McClay, dean of the Academy of Culinary Arts, welcoming guests, followed by remarks by Dr. Josette Katz, interim vice president of academic affairs at Atlantic Cape.
Katz said, “Our best advertisement is always the graduates. Once you are out in the industry and community, your talent brings new students through our doors.”
Certificates were presented to students by Culinary Training Program instructor Steve Cozzi of Cape May Court House.
Valedictorian of the Culinary Training Program, Kathleen Lescas of Northfield, spoke about how valuable the training program experience had been for the graduates and expressed excitement on where the future may lead them.
Students who completed the Culinary Training Program are Leida Brenes of Galloway, Martin Deangelis of Ventnor, Jennifer Green of Atlantic City, Kathleen Lescas of Northfield, Sung Park of Egg Harbor Township, Salvatore Storione of Ventnor, Bernardo Tapia Huerta of Wildwood and Derwin Powell of Pleasantville.
The program teaches the skills to begin a career as a cook.
