A message from Dr. Barbara Gaba - 6 April

April 6, 2020

Dear College Community,

I hope that you and your families are healthy and safe. I know that this has been a very challenging and anxious time for everyone as we hear the daily statistics of COVID-19. However, I wanted to keep you apprised of what Atlantic Cape is doing to adapt to and overcome, the challenges this crisis poses for our College community.

Atlantic Cape Supports our Community

We assisted our community members through donations of supplies and food. Our Nursing Program and Health Professions Institute (HPI) donated their supply of masks, gloves, and other personal protective equipment (PPE) to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center and Cape Regional Medical Center to protect our heroic healthcare workers, many of them Alumni, as they work tirelessly to care for their patients. Food from our food pantries located on all three campuses and the perishable storeroom that supports Careme’s Restaurant has been donated to local food pantries and the Food Bank of South Jersey.

Atlantic Cape Supports our Students

To address the technology challenges that some of our students are facing to continue classes online, the College has loaned laptops to students who did not have a computer. Additionally, we provided all students with information about no-cost or low-cost WIFI and Internet access options which are available at www.atlanticcape.edu/coronavirus.

Moreover, due to the ongoing fundraising efforts of the Atlantic Cape Foundation, additional resources have been made available for students in need of necessary food, supplies and Shop Rite gift cards. Please consider donating at www.atlanticcape.edu/about/foundation.

You are not alone! In support of student success, online tutoring services have been expanded, and faculty members are available to meet with students remotely during their regularly scheduled office hours.  Our staff is also available remotely. For more information about student support services available, go to www.atlanticcape.edu/coronavirus.

Atlantic Cape is Open for Summer and Fall Registration
Just a reminder that registration for Summer and Fall semesters begins today. Students can search for desired courses and register for both semesters online via the Self-Service portal. Our excellent advising and counseling staff is available via phone, email, and video chat to assist with this process.

Atlantic Cape Looks Forward to Celebrating our Graduates
Due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and the uncertainty as to when we will be back to normal, we made a very difficult decision to POSTPONE Atlantic Cape’s Annual Commencement Ceremony to an undetermined later date. Commencement is the highlight of the academic year for so many of our students, faculty, and staff (myself included) and I understand how disappointing it is to have to delay this celebration. I invite you to send any thoughts or ideas you may have regarding how and when we might celebrate graduation to Ms. Paula Davis, Dean, Student Affairs and Enrollment Management at pdavis@atlanticcape.edu. I look forward to celebrating with you and your family and friends in the near future!

We are Atlantic Cape Strong!
I thank each and every one of you for the sacrifices you have made to keep each other safe, and I urge you to maintain connections with your fellow community members even as you practice social distancing. Make a phone call to your relatives, schedule a video chat with friends, or drop off groceries to your neighbor. We are all in this together, and we will get through this together.

I encourage you to visit https://youtu.be/oSi2Pe0gGvY to view a special video message to the college community that I have created. Additionally, please check www.atlanticcape.edu/coronavirus for regular updates and information on this evolving situation.

It is important that the college community stay connected during this time. Please be well and safe.

My best always,

Dr. Barbara Gaba

President
