A Message From Dr. Gaba - June 8

June 8, 2020

Dear Faculty and Staff:

I hope everyone is doing well and continues to be safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Social distancing continues, as the nation begins to reopen slowly. We will continue to support our students remotely to assist them with registration for the Summer and Fall semesters.

Reflections

Last week, many people watched the eulogy of George Floyd honoring his memory. Peaceful protests continued to focus on condemning racism and social injustice and demanding positive change. I am very proud of our work at Atlantic Cape, where we are guided by our values of diversity, equity, and inclusion. We are committed to our students regardless of their differences so they may obtain the education and training they need to be successful in an ever-changing society.

Unfortunately, we are currently faced with a public health crisis, economic crisis, and social justice crisis; all at the same time! How we respond to each of these will guide our future.

Please continue to share your thoughts and feelings with each other, even if it is uncomfortable. Let us continue to promote equity and inclusion in all that we do.

Virtual Commencement
Our Virtual Commencement is just a few days away on June 11 at 6 pm. It will be broadcast on YouTube, Facebook, and on the College’s website. For more information, please go to http://www.atlanticcape.edu/student-life/graduation/index.php. I hope you will join me and celebrate the success of our graduates. Many thanks to the Marketing Department and Student Affairs for their efforts in creating this unique celebration.

The graduation celebration will continue when we have the live traditional Commencement on December 5. More information is forthcoming.

Virtual Coffee with the President

You are invited to attend the upcoming “Coffee with the President” virtually on Thursday, June 18 at 10 am. Zoom access to the event will be provided next week. I look forward to seeing everyone again.  Join me over a cup of coffee to share your thoughts and discuss your concerns during these challenging times.

What Words Inspire You?

In an effort to keep us uplifted in these unprecedented and challenging times, I end each of my messages with an inspiring quote. Words are important and have meaning.  If you have an inspirational quote that you would like me to share in my weekly message, kindly send it to me at president@atlanticcape.edu.

In the meantime, be safe and well. Thank you for all you are doing to support our students and each other.

“Be the change that you wish to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi

Sincerely,

Dr. Barbara Gaba
