Atlantic Cape Community College Supports Students and Community During Time of Crisis
Nursing Program Donates PPEs to Local Hospitals; Foundation Provides Food for Students
MAYS LANDING – During these times of need, Atlantic Cape Community College is doing whatever it can to support its students, staff, and neighbors. As COVID-19 sweeps across New Jersey, it’s affecting lives and operations of just about everyone in a variety of ways.
A leader in producing future nurses and healthcare workers, Atlantic Cape Community College donated hundreds of personal protective equipment (PPE) items from its nursing program to those who are working on the front lines. Two hundred isolation gowns, masks, and pairs of examination gloves were donated to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, along with 50 masks with shields. The Nursing program also donated 150 masks to Atlantic County EMS. The science labs were also able to gather gloves and gowns to donate to Cape Regional Health System in Middle Township.
“Being a community college, of course, we will always do what we can to support our neighbors,” said Atlantic Cape President Dr. Barbara Gaba. “We hope these donations help those who are courageously on the frontline of this pandemic. These essential healthcare workers are out there making a difference, and we deeply appreciate the work that is being done by these incredible individuals and teams. The bags were put together from the food pantries located on all Atlantic Cape campuses, which are supported by donations made to the Atlantic Cape Foundation by faculty, staff, students, and the community. The Foundation also provided $2,000 in ShopRite gift cards for students who needed some help during these trying times.
“We are fortunate to have so many generous members of our South Jersey community dedicated to seeing our students succeed,” said Dr. Gaba. “We always try to support members of our Atlantic Cape family and are so grateful to The Foundation for all they have done and continue to do for our students.”
Atlantic Cape Community College resumed its Spring classes on March 30. These classes are taught completely online in response to the state’s stay at home order.
