GRADUATION SUCCESS STORY: Folsom Graduate Rediscovers Herself at Atlantic Cape

May 15, 2017

Jenna Deluca, 21, of Folsom, graduates from Atlantic Cape Community College with degrees in English and Communication, and will pursue her education at Rider University in the fall, focusing specifically on television. She is the first person in her family to graduate college.

Deluca said, “My biggest challenge over the course of my time at Atlantic Cape was finding myself. When I first entered as a freshman, I was recovering from a very rough period. At the very end of my junior year of high school I had been drugged and sexually abused on multiple occasions. The aftermath was far more complicated than one can ever imagine and during that time my life was very chaotic. Justice wasn’t served until I was a sophomore at Atlantic Cape. In the fallout I had sort of lost myself and I became a person I didn't recognize.”

When Deluca first started attending Atlantic Cape, she said she was a student who attended class and then left. She was timid, shy and lacked self-confidence. But as time passed, she said she became more involved and even started a couple of student clubs which remain active on campus. “I will be leaving with a lot more confidence, a far more outgoing persona and newly obtained leadership skills,” Deluca concluded.

Deluca’s career goals include working behind the scenes in television or doing a little screenwriting. She would also like to be a college professor at some point.

“Graduating from Atlantic Cape is so bittersweet. It is leading me to the next step in my education however it is also closing the door to this wonderful chapter of my life. I am the first in my family to attend college and I'm walking away with two degrees, but I am leaving this place with so much more than that. I am leaving here with friendships that will last a lifetime, a newfound confidence in myself and vast opportunities.”
