Stephen R. Dunn to Serve as Atlantic Cape Commencement Speaker

April 17, 2017

Stephen R. Dunn, president of Atlantic Cape Community College’s first graduating class in 1968, will deliver the keynote address at the college’s 50th anniversary commencement, 11 a.m., Thursday, May 18.

Dunn, born and raised in Atlantic City, is a retired medical researcher who has co-authored more than 50 scientific publications. He has lectured at national and international conferences and has served as principal investigator on grants and contracts with the National Institutes of Health.

At Atlantic Cape’s 2015 commencement, Dunn received the President’s Distinguished Alumni Award. During the college’s inaugural commencement, Dunn served as the student speaker when he earned an associate degree in science. Next he earned a bachelor’s degree in chemistry at Rutgers University and later a master’s degree in analytical chemistry from Temple University. Between his studies, Dunn served in the National Guard and received the Commander’s Special Award in 1975.

Dunn has said that his experience at Atlantic Cape provided the foundation for a successful career and encourages today’s students to stay focused. “I recommend that they be the best student possible. Make a strong start when you enter college. Get good grades, work hard; and I promise the fun will come later.”

Dunn lives in Philadelphia and Atlantic City with his wife, Kathleen.
